Directions to Xudumela Conservancy from Maun
Xudumela Conservancy is approximately 90 minutes from Maun, although the journey can take a little longer depending on sand conditions. A 4×4 vehicle is essential for the final section of the drive.
- Leave Maun on the A3 (Ghanzi Road) heading southwest.
- Continue past the Sitatunga Backpackers turn-off.
- Drive approximately 1 km past the Nxotega Channel bridge.
- Turn right just past the Borrow Pit sign at the red car bumper (look for the Xudumela camp sign). This small road runs parallel to the main cut line road and will join it after about 4km
- Follow the cut line for a total of approximately 23km
- After about 15 km, cross the Kwapa Channel via the wooden bridge.
- Continue for another 10 km until you reach the entrance gate to Xudumela Conservancy.
- Pass through the gate and follow the main track for approximately 4 km to arrive at the camp on the banks of the Xudum Channel.
TRAVEL TIPS
- A high-clearance 4×4 is strongly recommended.
- Reduce tyre pressures before entering the sand (around 1.2–1.5 bar is generally suitable, depending on your vehicle and load).
- Avoid driving after dark, as wildlife is common along the route.
- If you’re unsure about current road conditions or recent flooding, contact Xudumela before travelling.
